Tiger Woods: I’m not a golfer anymore

Tiger Woods has said that he is no longer a full-time golfer and will play only as many tournaments as he has to in order to keep his money.

“I am certainly not going to play the majority of events this year, as I have done in the past,” Woods said in a video message. “My game is not where it needs to be, and I want to focus my attention on getting healthy.”

‘I’ve only played 25% of my events the last three or four years.’ — Tiger Woods

Woods said he wants to continue playing, but insisted he is more focused on making money.

“I’ve only played 25% of my events the last three or four years,” he said. “I’m going to have to play a lot more this year. I’m not going to cut back my schedule, I’ll keep playing.”

Woods is a 14-time major champion, and regarded as one of the greatest golfers in history, but he has not won a major since 2008.

Media reports last year suggested he has missed more than a third of the tournaments he has played since returning from back surgery.

It could be, therefore, another tough year for Woods.

His latest statement comes the same day that he accepted a spot in the Texas Open tournament, his fifth in Texas.
